Tourism and Digital Transformation

Today, people and businesses connect, exchange information and execute transactions in ways never before imagined. The combination of digital platforms, user-generated content and feedback, social media integration, global positioning services, and the use of big data and artificial intelligence, has transformed the way people experience, consume and share information.

Nepal Tourism Board has marked the world Tourism Day by bringing ICT awareness and digital capacity building in 20 emerging city of Nepal for tourism.

    Project Objective

  • - Increase the knowledge base for both public and private tourism entities focusing ICT, which has offered indispensable and very powerful tools for management, logistics, distribution and marketing.

  • - Workshop to train on how to up to date with shifts in customer expectations and aligned with global trends which compelling the tourism sector to adapt business and operating models in search of enhanced customer satisfaction and operational performance.

  • - Creating opportunities for new entrants into the tourism value chain, like online travel platforms, mobile application and different software developments.

    Program Overview

    For this campaign, Nepal Tourism Board has prepared for one day workshops in 20 different cities all around the Nepal. In every city there would be 25-30 participants from tourism background, like travel agency, hotels, online travel agency, travel activities. This program will be good opportunity for them to learn about digital technologies which will help them to boost their business. While Tourism sector has been at the forefront of digital disruption, exponential technological change means that the sector must innovate, and all stakeholders must collaborate, on a near-constant basis in order to remain competitive.

    In addition, the tourism sector’s cross-cutting nature extends its level of responsibility to use technological change and digitalization to help engender a more economically and socially sustainable, inclusive and environmentally-friendly future.
